Common Slip-Ups That Make Your Blog Look Bad

UK data indicates that 4.4 million blogs are published on various platforms each day. This can only mean that more people are increasingly interested in reading relevant blogs. While this bit of news is exciting, it is a constant reminder for bloggers to be up to the task. Unfortunately, statistics indicate that two out of four blogs contain unpardonable slip-ups. Below is a shortlist of some you don’t want your blog to be known for.

Infrequent publishing

According to data, 409 people read different blogs every month. In addition to that, most readers spend only 16 seconds on a blog article. These statistics should get you thinking about the frequency of your article publishing.

Ideally, two or three new articles every day will keep your blog in the minds of your readers. If daily publishing poses a problem in your specific case, you can do three new articles in a week. Now, even that is the minimum. The main issue here, though, is to maintain consistency. When you go several days or weeks without new posts, your readers may perceive you as an uninterested blogger. Gradually, you will lose your readership and your followers.

Delayed loading pages

If your blog is a WordPress site, you may have little to no problem with slow loading speed. This is because over 40% of WordPress sites are backed by WooCommerce hosting. This automatically takes care of any issues regarding page speed. If in doubt, click here for insight on this subject. A blog that takes ten seconds or more to open has loading issues that need immediate attention. Many reasons may account for this, which explains why you need to investigate it.

Using a small-sized headline

You may have read many articles on why the headline must be catchy. Indeed, this is crucial because it draws potential readers further into the article. If the post is interesting enough, they will spend more than 16 seconds on your page. However, very little is said about the size of the headline. According to successful UK bloggers, the headline size matters because it helps attract readers to the story. Moreover, when it stands out (literally), readers can easily see them and feel compelled to click on the topics that appeal most to them.

When readers get onto your blog’s landing page, they will see several headlines depending on your format. The truth is, on many successful blogs, headline font sizes of 16 – 20 pixels are more appealing. Anything below 16 pixels may not stand out as it should for a potential reader.

A lacklustre ‘About me’ page

Blog readers have a habit of reading ‘About Me’ pages. It is a way to see the face and know the brain behind the page. According to Google Analytics, this page follows closely in ratings after the homepage. With this crucial information, you cannot afford to have a bland ‘About Me’ page.

Believe it or not, it is the one-time first impression you create in the minds of blog users and readers. Sometimes, a web user will subscribe to your page only because your ‘About me’ has character and great humour. In reality, though, the type of blog you run will determine the content of this page. So, if you don’t want your blog to look bad, keep your ‘About me’ interesting and inspiring.
