Having your ‘why’ written down and clear in your mind will help you to stay focused on what you are trying to achieve, which is an excellent motivator. Trying to simply quit something that you are addicted to, or have done for a long time can set you up for failure. When you attempt to do too much, too soon, all at once, you’re not giving yourself a fair chance of success. Taking steps to reduce your habit gradually may involve substituting your current habit with another one to help you slowly ease off.
