5 Common-Sense Tips For Perfect Eye Health
We rely on our eyes. Without them, interpreting the world around us would be substantially more difficult.
Our eyes will generally keep working for us for a long time – decades in fact. However, eventually, things can start to go wrong.
Often the warning signs occur during our childhood or early lives as adults. Common symptoms include eye allergies, blurry vision requiring eye contacts, eyestrain and tunnel vision. There are many causes of eye problems. These include staring at a screen all day, certain side effects of medication, and various allergens. The good news is that there are many things that you can do to protect your eye health and improve your vision long-term.

Use Artificial Tears
Using artificial tears might sound like a strange concept, but, for some patients, they are necessary. Healthy eyes keep up a steady rate of tear production, designed to keep the eyes moist and supple so that they can move freely around their sockets. However, certain conditions and even old age can prevent this from happening. Dry eyes can also occur after staring at a screen for a long time.
The trick here is to add regular artificial tears to your eyes. Many people like to keep an eye drop vial on their desk and then use it if their eyes feel itchy or dry.
Give Your Eyes A Rest
You should also strive to give your eyes a rest from time to time, even if you have to stare at a screen all day.
Many office workers follow the so-called “20/20” rule. The idea here is to look at the computer for 20 minutes and then take a 20 second rest where you stare into the distance. You can also briefly close your eyelids and allow your eyes to go out of focus for a few seconds. If you can touch type, this won’t eleven interrupt your work.
Take Vitamins
Certain vitamins, such as vitamin C, E, and A support eye health, as does the mineral zinc. Be sure that you’re getting enough of these as lacking these nutrients can accelerate eye deterioration. If you are not sure whether you’re getting enough, take a blood test.
Get Plenty Of Exercise
Exercise is one of the most powerful tools available for enhancing your eye health and keeping them in good condition. It’s effective because it prevents chronic conditions, such as diabetes, that could eventually go on to damage your eyes.
You don’t actually have to do a great deal of exercise to reap the benefits. Just getting your heart rate up for a few minutes per day should do the trick.
Protect Your Eyes From The Sun
You can put sunscreen on your skin to protect it from solar radiation, but what about your eyes? The trick here is to wear sunglasses whenever you go outside. Make sure that the glasses you wear have UVA and UVB protection. Tinted glasses may look as though they offer shade, but they might not actually stop UV.
