4 Ways To Make Your Favourite Meals Healthier
We’ve all got a favourite meal that we absolutely love eating. You eat it every week – maybe even twice a week – and it never gets old. Similarly, you could have a selection of meals that you always cycle through. They’re your absolute faves, but there’s one problem; they’re probably not as healthy as they could be.
Consequently, you’re starting to worry about your health. You know that you need to make changes, but you can’t stop eating your favourite meals. So, here are three ways you can make your meals a lot healthier:

Make them from scratch
A lot of you will have meals that you either order in or get ready-made for you. Alternatively, aspects of the meal could be pre-made. Usually, when something isn’t made from scratch, it’s not going to be that healthy. Pre-made meals are normally packed full of salt and extra fat, so one quick change is to make your meals by yourself.
In doing so, you control what goes into every meal. You can weigh out the ingredients, so you know how many calories are in them. You also control things like salt levels and fat, stopping the meal from being too naughty.
Eat smaller portions
Sometimes, the meals you eat aren’t really that bad for you. They contain lots of calories, but the reason for this is that you’re eating stupidly large portions. Talk to a local nutritionist and they will tell you that portion sizes are super important when eating healthily. Too many people load up their plates and eat everything on them. Why? Because their brain sees food and makes you feel like you need to eat it all. So, you overeat and consume more calories than you need.
Make smaller portions and you will have healthier meals. You can easily knock a couple of hundred calories off a meal by making it smaller. Of course, ensure it’s still enough to fill you up!
Change the cooking method
The way you cook your food can determine if a meal is healthy or not. Frying things in loads of oil is inherently bad for your health. You add too much fat to the food and it isn’t good for your heart.
Alternatively, try to bake things or air fry them instead. Grill things too, or even use your trusted microwave. There are so many ways of cooking everything; it’s easy to find an alternative to make your favourite meals healthier.
Swap out some ingredients
Lastly, making a few alterations to a meal can make it a lot healthier. For instance, if you love spaghetti bolognese, you can make it healthier by opting for lentils instead of processed mince. It’s way better for you, fills you up with fibre, yet is lower in calories.
Similarly, what about swapping fries for some baked sweet potatoes? It’s a similar thing to have on the side, only this is much better for you. Sweet potatoes have more nutrients and baking them means you use less oil.
As you’ve seen, it is super easy to take some of your favourite meals and make them better for you. This allows you to enjoy what you’re eating while making healthier choices!
